Pataskala, Ohio, whose name derives from the Delaware tribes, was originally founded in 1851 and is part of Licking County. David Heron is the first known settler in the region, having stayed in Pataskal in 1805 when he was met with travelers Richard Conine and his family. Known as the “father of Pataskala”, Conine arranged to purchase the area that has since developed.

Though the town was originally named after the Conine family, it was decided in the 1850s to change the name to Pataskala, which roughly translates to Bright Waters. In the mid 90s, Pataskala merged with Lima Township, which increased the population by a significant amount. Since this merger, the city of Pataskala has continued to thrive and now offers many wonderful activities and opportunities to enjoy the surrounding area.

Here are a few of the signature events and activities to enjoy during your stay in Pataskala.

Outdoor Activities

During your stay in Pataskala, there are several wonderful parks and hiking areas to enjoy. Thomas J. Evans Foundation Park is a local favorite, and it’s easy to see why. This park offers a little something for everyone, including room for dogs to run, modern playground equipment for children to enjoy, and room for organized activities like baseball and soccer. This park also hosts annual events, including the Easter Egg Hunt, 4th of July Fireworks, and regular potluck gatherings. For those in the mood for something a little more remote and peaceful, Freedom Park is the place for you. While you will not find the same amenities at more modern
parks, Freedom Park offers an opportunity for solitude and nice leisurely strolls.

Local Restaurants

While visiting Pataskala, there are several delicious restaurant options to choose from. If you are in the mood for some delicious seafood, sail on down to Rusty’s Wharf. Although Rusty’s has several delicious options, they are best known for their incredible fish and chips. Because the owner is originally from Greece, there are also delicious cannoli’s available on the menu. If pizza is calling your name instead, stop on down to Capuano’s Pizza House, which has been owned and operated locally for over 30 years. With friendly staff and reasonable prices, Capuano’s Pizza House has a little something for everyone. In the mood for something a
little more exotic? Check out Cajun’s Café, a wonderful hidden gem that serves up outstanding Cajun faire, including jambalaya, fried okra, and hushpuppies.

Lynd’s Fruit Farm

If you are in Pataskala during the right time of year, you owe it to yourself to check out Lynd’s Fruit Farm. Fun for the whole family, Lynd’s is a beautiful open space where visitors can go and pick apples from a wide selection of trees. There is also a play area for children, a store to buy souvenirs, and a pumpkin patch in case you are ready to purchase that year’s jack-o-lantern. And while you’re there, make sure you have a piece of the delicious apple pie that is made on site!
