More about Gahanna, OH

Though originally considered a rival town, Gahanna and neighboring village Bridgeport put aside their differences in 1881 and merged into a single town that is now known as Gahanna. Listed among the Top 100 Best Places to Live by Money magazine, Gahanna was officially established in 1849 and has continued to develop into a wonderful community.

Gahanna has recently been working to revitalize the downtown area of the city, focusing primarily on redeveloping areas and creating new opportunities for restaurants, offices, and new residential properties. This massive project is expected to significantly increase the town’s population and help generate a vibrant tourism base to support the local economy. As part of their redevelopment program, Gahanna is also working on the cleanup of a major landfill and the demolishment of several environmentally unfriendly properties. The largest brownfields redevelopment project to date has been the closure of the Bedford Landfill, which has since been transformed into Central Park of Gahanna, along with a major campus that features a golf academy known as The Golf Depot. Creekside Gahanna is a modern development that offers over 70 luxury condominiums that have all been designed to incorporate the area's natural landscape. Among the current retail stores are The Wine Guy Wine Shop, Cold Stone Creamery, and the Golden Nail and Salon.

Gahanna offers a wide variety of wonderful places to explore and there is something for everyone to enjoy. Here are a few of the wonderful signature places and events to check out during your stay in the Gahanna area:

Gahanna Woods State Nature Preserve

Gahanna Woods State Nature Preserve was founded in 1973 and represents a tremendous effort to preserve one of the remaining sections of woods native to the area. Today the preserve is ideal for bird watchers, especially those on the lookout for bluebirds and woodpeckers, as well as nature enthusiasts who will thrill at seeing the robust collection of beautiful indigenous wildflowers, including wild hyacinth, trillium, and the extremely rare cypress knee-sedge. The preserve also contains several well-tended hiking trails and comfortable spots for families and outdoors types to relax for picnics.

Wyandotte Winery

While visiting Gahanana, be sure to stop by the quaint and relaxing Wyandotte Winery, which is located in nearby Columbus. Operating since 1977, Wyandotte Winery is the oldest winery in Central Ohio and features a wide variety of hand crafted wines. The winery is the perfect spot for enjoying a nice glass of red, white or rose, or for the more adventurous types, an opportunity to sample less traditional wines that feature unusual ingredients, such as dandelion, beet, or rhubarb. All wine offered are made on site.
