Officially classified as a census-designated place, Logan Elm Village was founded in 1912 and is located in Pickaway County. The name “Logan Elm” refers to Chief Logan, a member of the Cayuga tribe who is remembered for a speech given beside a giant elm tree that addressed the relationships between early settlers to the region and the local native tribes. This speech, known as Logan’s Lament, was delivered following the Battle of Point Pleasant and acted as response to the violence experienced at the hands of the settlers. This speech was shared in many local newspapers and was even included in Thomas Jefferson’s book, Note on the State of Virginia.
